Keywording Guidelines
Please bear in mind that providing accurate caption information makes our caption writing and keywording processes more efficient and also increases positive search results for your images once the image is entered into our database.
Caption information should include the following when relevant:
The basic premise is to describe the "Who, What, Why, When, Where and How" of each image.
Location: include Town/City, State/Province, County, Region, and Country.
Ethnicity, nationality, tribal affiliations and religious orientation when known. (Please don't guess if you're not sure.)
Relationship of individuals when appropriate. (Father, daughter, teacher, student, brother, sister, employer, colleague, teammate, etc.)
Specific dates for images that are historic, newsworthy, or documentary in nature.
Specific age or age-range of individuals when known.
Names of animals and plants: provide the scientific name in parenthesis only if you are absolutely sure. There are instances where a particular species has many subspecies with very minor variations. If you're not sure, just stick with the common names.

The Kinds of Images We Want
Reminder: Reminder: Photoedit, Inc. specializes in ethnic and minority photos for a primary client base of textbook publishers so please incorporate this theme into your images as much as possible. What We Want Education: We are always looking for images of Kindergarten through College age students in an active learning environment. A recent PhotoEdit, Inc. client survey indicated that the most wanted photos are: science experiments, Geology, Archaeology, school field trips and students in science labs. Other popular photo researcher requests include mainstreamed handicapped students, students or teachers using iPads as a learning tool, students using the latest model computers to learn difficult subject matter, and teachers interacting one-on-one with students. Lastly, any interesting images of Charter schools using innovative curriculums to teach students are welcome as well. Politics: We would like to see more images of national and state political candidates for any major upcoming elections. The candidates or serving political leaders should be speaking at major conventions & minor local events or simply campaigning in their local constituencies. In addition, any images of popular (or unpopular) domestic and international political & social protest movements and people voting on electronic polling machines have been frequently requested. Also portrait images of all nine Supreme Court justices and the Supreme Court building (interior and exterior) would be greatly appreciated. Environment: Popular image requests among our clients are the visible effects of global warming such as the declining arctic sea ice, shrinking ice sheets, glacial retreating, sea level rise, global temperature rise and warming in the oceans. Other popular requests include oil spills and their associated clean-up efforts, water and air pollution around the world, machines and vehicles using new energies such as hydrogen, biodiesel, liquefied natural gas, electric, ethanol or methanol. Also, if you have recycling photos, we want them! ”Green” is a growing trend, so you have photos of renewable energy technologies (such as solar power) or other environmentally friendly products, please send them. Health and Medical: Our researchers indicate that photos of doctors’ visits and science labs top the list in the health category. Other specific topics mentioned are also modern medical technology such as MRIs, CAT scans & EEGs and emergency & hospital room activity, apparent drug overdoses, out-patient medical procedures, and people receiving flu or immunization shots. Also included in this category are images of people of all ages exercising, eating healthy, and participating in proper daily hygiene. Miscellaneous: There are a wide range of images that PhotoEdit finds useful almost daily. In particular, we get many requests for animal photos; if you have good shots of animals in nature that would work well in a natural history book, we want them. Also, we are always looking for photos of the following: volunteering, children or teens doing chores, public speaking,
crime scenes or crime labs using modern technology, law enforcement, and poverty. If you have a range of these shots, we invite you to submit them. What We Don't Want
Generally, please do not submit photos of the following: sunsets, weddings, flowers, flags, shots of people from the back, boats, crops, crowds, museum exhibits, parades, American tourists, general crows shots or multiple shots of the same image. We welcome a set or series of a photo shoot but please do not send your bracketing results/similars with no obvious varition, so please self edit and thoughtfully select your photos before you submit them. When unsure of which shot is needed, your best horizontal and vertical of that particular shot in the series will suffice when possible. This will ensure a faster turnaround time when we go to review your images.
Shooting on Spec
When we receive a research request for an image we don't have but would like to add to our collection, we'll ask one of our photographers to shoot the image. Also, we periodically send out "want lists" of images that we need, so that way you'll be sure to know the kind of images that our photo buyers are looking for. Contributors who are open to shooting on spec have done quite well for themselves. PhotoEdit Inc. is always looking for more photographers who are open to shooting on spec.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
