Write to us at info@photoeditinc.com. Include your original user name and the name change or password replacement.

What is Rights Managed/Royalty Free?

PhotoEdit's images are not free, whether royalty-free (RF) or rights-managed (RM). When you purchase an image from us, you do not own it; you are buying a license to use a copyrighted image that still belongs to the photographer.

When you purchase a license to an RF image, you pay a one-time fee and can use the image with few restrictions, in many different projects, and as often as you like. You do not need additional licenses nor pay additional fees. The one-time fee for this unlimited use is higher than that of the initial fee for the use of an RM image. Other users may select the same image, and use it in a project that may compete with yours.

Stick with an RM image if you want something more unique. Because it cannot be used over and over without limits, an RM image offers you and your clients more chance to illustrate your idea with an image not widely seen. When you purchase a license to an RM image, the license limits your use to a specific project, size, distribution, medium, and timeframe and price varies with these factors. To reuse the photo later on or for additional uses, you need to re-license it.

You may not use any PhotoEdit image, whether RF or RM, model released or not model released, in any pornographic, defamatory, or libelous manner. You may not use any image as a trademark or logo. You may not use any image in a manner that depicts or identifies the people shown in it in connection with sensitive subject matter (AIDS, abortion, sex, promiscuity, mental or physical ailments, illegal drugs, tobacco or firearms) unless that subject is already the content of the image. You may not use our images in a manner that is unlawful or misleading. And you may not resell our image to a party not identified in our original license to you.

What are image restrictions?

Editorial Only

Images that are restricted to editorial use only cannot be used in an advertising capacity.

Model Releases

PhotoEdit Inc. clearly marks an image as model released when the photographer supplies us with model release information. We can request a copy of the release from the photographer if you require it. If an image is not marked model released, you may not assume there are any releases for any and all of the people shown in the image. Because many of our images are not model-released, you must pay particular attention to all the restrictions listed in this document.

Whether you select an RF or an RM image, if it is not model released we suggest you use it for editorial purposes only.

If PhotoEdit Inc. erroneously asserts the existence, scope, or validity of a release you agree to indemnify PhotoEdit against any claim.

Use Restrictions

User may not make or permit any alterations, including and without limitation additions, subtractions or adaptations, to any Image, except that cropping, and alterations of contrast, brightness and color balance, consistent with reproduction needs, may be made. No Image may be used in any way that is defamatory, violates the rights of third parties (including such third parties' rights of copyright, privacy, publicity, or other tangible or intangible property), or is otherwise illegal or obscene. In addition, user may not conjoin an Image with any other material that may result in damage to the reputation of the Image Rights holder.

How can I join your agency as a photographer?

Stock Submissions The Basics
  • Submissions must be sent as color, RGB, jpegs with a DPI of 300. They should be at least 8X12 and NOT interpolated (uprezzed). Please do not submit grayscale images, tifs, raw, or psd files.
  • We prefer that you use a professional digital camera that yields, at very least, 6.0 mega pixels (6 million pixels).
  • Please do not manipulate the images in Photoshop. This does not include negotiating an f-stop, color correction, or applying settings to meet the above requirements save for interpolation. We are not looking for f/x images at this time.
  • Please save images with proper orientation that do not need to be rotated. Horizontals should be horizontal and verticals should be vertical.
  • Please add MR to all image names that are model released. Model releases are extremely important, request them as often as possible.
  • Please provide caption information within the file info of each image. If you are not working with Adobe Photoshop, please send an accompanying file with image info including ethnicity, ages, location, and the like.

CD/DVD Submissions
  • CD submissions should always be compatible with the PC platform but can also be hybrid (MAC and PC compatible). PhotoEdit Inc. will keep all CDs in a catalogued file system. We recommend that you burn a duplicate copy for your records. Address them to Raquel Ramirez.
  • ALL CD submissions must be accompanied by a printed contact sheet of thumbnails each no smaller than 2"x1.9" (4 columns by 5 rows).

FTP Submissions
  • PhotoEdit Inc. does not accept unsolicited submissions via ftp at this time. If PhotoEdit Inc. currently represents you please contact Raquel Ramirez for your username and password.
  • We would like to see high res images only when we collect your ftp submissions. Lo res versions are not necessary.
